Scribe vs MyGentic: how worried should we be?

Prepared for the MyGentic team · 26 Sep 2026 · Internal, not for external distribution

01Headline verdict

Scribe is a large, well-funded company, but it solves a different problem from MyGentic's personal product. The risk is concentrated in the team and company-brain segment, where Scribe now markets itself as the way to give AI agents business context over MCP.

Low threat
MyGentic (personal)

Scribe records how employees perform software tasks for their employer. It is not a personal knowledge store that follows an individual across AI tools.

Medium threat
Cogentic company brains

If Cogentic sells to operations or AI-transformation buyers in mid-market or enterprise companies, Scribe will be in the deal and will shape the category language.

02What Scribe is

scribe.com is the same company that was historically known as scribehow.com. The old domain now redirects permanently to scribe.com, sign-in links still point at scribehow.com, and the site footer names the legal entity as Colony Labs, Inc. dba Scribe.

Scribe began as a browser extension that turns a user's clicks into step-by-step how-to guides with screenshots. It now positions itself as "the workflow context layer for enterprise AI" and sells three connected products.

The target buyer has clearly shifted towards enterprise operations, IT, and AI-transformation leaders, with messaging built around AI mandates, board-level ROI proof, and security reviews. The site highlights SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA, GDPR, and FERPA compliance.

03Pricing

The figures below come from scribe.com/pricing and are shown in US dollars. Where two prices are given, the lower one is the per-seat monthly price when billed yearly (Scribe advertises a 20% saving) and the higher one is the monthly-billed price.

TierPriceSeatsMain feature gates
BasicFree—Web capture in the browser, quick customisation, and sharing by link or embed.
Pro Personal$25–$35 / seat / moFrom 1 seatAdds desktop and mobile capture, company branding, screenshot editing and redaction, PDF, HTML, and Markdown export, and Confluence integration. Marketed as ideal for solo consultants.
Pro Team$13–$17 / seat / moFrom 5 seatsEverything in Pro Personal plus collaboration through comments.
EnterpriseCustom—Adds SAML SSO, SCIM provisioning, role-based access, automatic redaction of personal and health data, multi-team governance, translation, and the enterprise search API, Copilot, Slack bot, and custom AI assistant integrations, which the page says are "available with select Enterprise modules".

Plans are applied at the team level, so every member of a team must be on the same tier. Scribe also offers education and nonprofit discounts. The desktop capture app is limited to Pro and Enterprise.

04Scale

Scribe is not an early-stage rival. The public figures below are taken from its own announcements and from independent press coverage.

05Threat analysis

MyGentic personal: low

Scribe's unit of value is a recorded workflow that belongs to the employer. MyGentic's unit of value is an individual's knowledge that moves with them across AI tools. A solo user looking for a second brain is unlikely to see Scribe as an alternative, and Scribe's Pro Personal tier is aimed at consultants who need to produce how-to guides rather than at people who want to carry their own knowledge between tools.

Cogentic and company brains: medium

Scribe now owns the message that AI agents need business context delivered over MCP, and it pairs that message with enterprise security, compliance, and distribution that MyGentic does not yet have. If Cogentic targets mid-market or enterprise operations teams, buyers will compare the two, and Scribe will already have set the vocabulary. This reinforces the existing decision to avoid "context layer" in MyGentic customer copy.

What we do not yet know

We have not tested the quality of Scribe's MCP server, and the pricing page suggests that its AI integrations are limited to Enterprise plans. The threat rating should be revisited after the 6 October launch.

06What MyGentic can learn

  1. A genuinely useful free tier that pulls people upward. Scribe's free Basic plan is good enough to spread inside companies, and paid gates sit on desktop capture, exports, and integrations. That individual adoption is how Scribe reached most of the Fortune 500.
  2. A clear split between solo and team pricing. Scribe charges solo users roughly twice the per-seat price of team users and sets a five-seat minimum on the team plan. The same structure could separate MyGentic personal from Cogentic cleanly, and a 20% annual discount is a simple lever to add.
  3. Governance and integrations reserved for the top tier. Scribe keeps SSO, role-based access, and its AI assistant integrations in Enterprise. Cogentic could reserve multi-brain governance and admin controls for its highest tier in the same way.
  4. ROI proof as the core of the sales story. Scribe leads with survey-backed outcomes such as hours saved per person per month and a five-day AI roadmap, and it publishes its own MCP benchmark report. MyGentic would benefit from one measurable outcome and a benchmark it can stand behind.
  5. Knowledge capture that feels effortless. Scribe's central promise is that knowledge is captured without anyone lifting a finger. MyGentic's Seed, Feed, and Collect steps should aim to feel just as automatic.

07What is genuinely different about MyGentic

  1. Knowledge belongs to the person and travels with them. MyGentic is an AI knowledge extension that moves an individual's knowledge across AI tools. Scribe's context belongs to the employer and is tied to recorded workflows.
  2. It captures expertise rather than click paths. Brain Builder combines a persona, skills, and knowledge into an expert brain, whereas Scribe records the steps someone takes on screen.
  3. Every brain has its own MCP endpoint. Each Brain Builder brain gets a sandboxed endpoint, which means experts can package and offer their brains, as Industry Rockstar does with IR Brain. Scribe has no equivalent for creators or experts.
  4. It can serve smaller buyers directly. MyGentic can sell to individuals and small businesses without the sales-led enterprise motion that Scribe increasingly depends on.

08Recommendation

1. Stay out of the "context" category. Scribe has claimed "workflow context layer", so MyGentic should keep leading with "AI knowledge extension" and expert brains rather than any context-based language.

2. Stress-test the pending pricing ladder before it is ratified. Before Nick and Aatu approve the working $47 / $97 / $197 per month ladder, check it against Scribe-style gates: a distinct solo tier, a seat minimum for teams, admin and governance features at the top, and an annual discount.

3. Watch Scribe's 6 October launch. Any new agent or MCP capability, or a change in how its AI integrations are priced, could move the Cogentic threat rating.
